Canvas Course & Evaluation Documents

While I have spent much of my time in the IDT program building different games, activities, or courses, this capstone project was the first time I actually completed a full evaluation of an artifact and made improvements based on the feedback received.

To complete this review, I chose to complete a usability evaluation of an online Canvas course that I created in the IDT program. The usability evaluation was looking at the overall usability, flow, and design of the course.

The experience of running a usability evaluation taught me a lot, the biggest of which is to never step seeking feedback and acting on that feedback. I talk more about this below in my report, but when I started with the evaluation I thought I had a quality course, but I quickly found that to not be true. I am glad I had this opportunity and will remember it for many years to come

Evaluation Plan

While there are many online courses available to students, what makes them usable and functional to students? In this plan I lay the ground work for how I am going to evaluate the flow, usability, and overall design of my online Canvas course.

This plan lays out how I will use scenarios with the evaluators to evaluate specific areas of my course, such as the learning objectives, assignment due dates, and even where to find resources. I lay out the methods for collecting the data and how I will run the evaluations to ensure a holistic usability evaluation.

Evaluation Report

This report was completed following the usability evaluation and discusses the methods used, the data, and the improvements made to the course.

This report goes in depth about how Backward Design and the Cognitive Informational Processing model are used in the creation of the course and in the actual evaluation itself. This report details how these models and theories play a key role in creating and evaluating a course that is functional for ALL and one where ALL students can learn and thrive to their fullest potential.

The report also analyzes the data and what the recommended fixes are to the issues that were found during the evaluation.

Finally the report includes a reflection about what I thought about the whole process and the course I designed.
